Crawford Instruments
specializes in sales, restoration and repair of
the violin family of instruments and bows. I,
Ian McWilliams, would like to welcome you. Crawford Instruments is an owner - operated
business which I initiated at the end of my post-graduate studies, in the
making of early stringed instruments, at West Dean College, UK. Presently, Crawford
Instruments is managed privately from my
workshop at
home and includes commissioned work as well
as restoration and repairs on stringed
instruments. I am also currently employed
at a
West End workshop in London where I am responsible
for all their Bow rehairs/repairs.
I was born and raised in Western Canada and
studied my apprenticeship in
Joinery/Furniture Making in Vancouver,
following which I ventured to England
to study at West Dean College. West
Dean College largely appealed to me
because of its broad course and one on one
tuition (Roger Rose) . This allowed me to
explore and practice my love of carving
and inlay work. Currently I
build mostly cellos and viols,
however I also perform restoration work and rehairs
for customers at their request.
At some point I plan on returning to the
snowy north (Canada) to reside again. For
now I am very happy working in London, UK,
where
I divide my time between working, lecturing and
making instruments. My work
and interaction with customers allows me to meet new and
interesting people daily.
Please
contact me with any inquires you may
have.
